Position Overview - MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN TRAINEE
Under immediate supervision, for a period of from six and not to exceed twelve months, receives instruction and training in caring for individuals with mental illness on a facility-wide basis; performs entry level duties in the care and habilitation/treatment of patients who are mentally ill at the Elgin Mental Health Center (EMHC). Actively participates in classroom and on-the-job training classes. Receives training in the Interdisciplinary Team Process.
Job Responsibilities - MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN TRAINEE
1. For a period of six and not to exceed twelve months, receives instruction and training in caring for individuals with mental illness on a facility-wide basis.
2. Receives training in the Interdisciplinary Team Process and under direct observation assists in the implementation of the Active Treatment/Daily Activity Schedule on unit, campus, and off facility grounds.
3. Assists in the performance of duties to ensure that the assigned living unit and patient service environment is maintained to meet Department, Facility, and regulatory standards.
4. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications - MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN TRAINEE
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN TRAINEE
- Requires ability to participate in and successfully complete a comprehensive training program.
Conditions of Employment - MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN TRAINEE
- Requires ability to walk and stand for a significant period of time, including stooping, bending, and lifting.
- Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to adjust to and function effectively in an environment with the mentally ill.
- Requires the ability to acquire and maintain CPR certification.
Position Overview - MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN I
Under immediate supervision, performs beginning level duties associated with the direct care and treatment, designed to help patients within an assigned group area, to achieve greater mental, physical, and social development. Verifies compliance to Facility philosophy, program, procedures, and practices, and ensures that the clinical services are appropriate with respect to cultural needs, chronological age, developmental age, and social classification.
Job Responsibilities - MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN I
1. Performs beginning level duties associated with the direct care and treatment, designed to help patients within an assigned group area, to achieve greater mental, physical, and social development.
2. Provides physical support to patients with personal care services.
3. Assists higher level staff conduct individual and group programs.
4. Verifies patient safety and protection through monitoring, supervision, and oversight.
5. Teaches and directs patients in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and secure environment.
6. Attends and completes scheduled training as required by Department of Human Services (DHS), the facility and the programmatic unit.
7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications - MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN I
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires successful completion of a comprehensive training program at the Mental Health Technician Trainee level.

Work Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM, 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM
Every other weekend off
